The school was founded in 1989. It is a "comprehensive, advanced, exemplary, open and first-class new school". It was rated as a national key vocational school in 1996. After the re-evaluation of national key vocational schools in 2002, the school's comprehensive strength ranked among the best in the province's similar schools. In 2004, it was identified as a "national training base for professional and skilled talents in numerical control technology application". At the end of 2005, it was approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education to be upgraded to a higher vocational and technical school. In 2007, it was rated as an advanced collective in the national education system. In 2011, it was confirmed by the Ministry of Education as the second batch of "National Secondary Vocational Education Reform and Development Demonstration School" creation units.
